The forthcoming Marvel hero team-up film, "The Avengers," will even be a treat for car supporters. The movie teams Iron Man, Green Arrow, the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow in a fight to save the planet. Tony Stark -- Iron Man to the planet (Robert Downey, Jr.) -- having lost his Audi R8 in his last film, now drives a never-before seen convertible Acura NSX. Burt the vehicle has a secret identity, too.
Seeing the Acura debut
The El Capitan theater in Hollywood was where everybody gathered on April 11 for the premiere of "The Avengers." The red carpet showcased some vehicles, including a couple Acura TL models. It also showed off the Acura MDX that was tricked-out for the film. These vehicles were used to shuttle actors back and forth. Robert Downey Jr. drove in style with a convertible.
Forming a partnership
Acura helped co-sponsor the premiere.
In both "Thor," and "Captain America," the Acura was seen. The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, or S.H.I.E.L.D., was seen in the film with them.
Find out about the secrets
Last week, the automaker released a photograph of the picture car, calling it "an Acura convertible sports car." Torque News forecasted that it was a one-of-a-kind, convertible version of the 2015 NSX sports car. That was right, to a point. However, Inside Line got the chance to drive the car used in the movie. And they have returned with a few insider secrets to reveal.
The test drive occurred at Honda's test track beyond California City, Calif., in the Mojave Desert. Tony Stark's Acura was delivered inside a plain, white semi-trailer. When it was presented, Inside Line's John Pearley Huffman said it was "Gorgeous. Stop and stare, devastatingly, truly gorgeous."
It was unnecessary to redo the inside of the automobile considering it is never really seen in the film, so it was an untouched inside trim of a 1991 Acura NSX. That was a massive surprise to Huffman.
The color of the car was painted red to match Tony Stark's Iron Man suit, and it was a brand new body built to go over a 1991 Acura NSX. The car was built in Oxnard, California at the Trans FX shop.
Car every person will watch
Huffman also remarked that the car was in extraordinary condition, calling it "one of the most extraordinary movie automobiles ever built. It's right up there with the Batmobile." Generally, film cars are required to perform stunts and do all kinds of strenuous maneuvers. But this time, Stark's ride doesn't have to perform any heroics, leaving it with a straight body and a glossy finish.
"The Avengers" comes out on May 4 for everyone to see.
