Steer Clear of All These Driving Habits

By Wendell Searfoss

If you have been driving for any length of time you will have developed your very own style of driving and if you are like most people, you probably consider yourself to be a competent driver. Nevertheless, it is likely that you learned some driving behaviors that could potentially be dangerous to you and others on the road. It is likely that you are not aware of this and unfortunately it may only be due to a bad experience such as an accident that makes you realize the way you drive may need to change. This information will look into a few of the driving habits that you should avoid at all costs.

The first behavior we will check out and one that can be particularly annoying to other road users is driving too close to the vehicle in front. We are taught in driving school that driving too close to a car or truck in front is unsafe especially if the car unexpectedly brakes. When you stand by the side of a speedy road you are going to actually experience the speed of the vehicles going past which is something you do not always feel when you are driving. Simply by driving too close to the automobile in front of you, you can pressure the driver to make a very fatal decision in order to get out of your way. The truth is you are not likely to arrive any faster at your destination by driving so close to the car in front of you.

Excessive speeding is yet another habit that can be dangerous under particular conditions. In this respect, the majority of people would admit to driving extremely fast at times when they must but if you do this in poor weather or built up areas, you really are exposing yourself and others to real danger. Most serious car pile ups come about because one or more drivers chose to drive very fast in poor weather conditions. If you happen to drive at a speed that match ups with everyone else on the road, there is less chance of getting into an accident.

If you happen to be somebody who has become an impatient driver and you are always directing your anger at other road users, then this is something you need to learn to control. Getting angry when you drive could contribute to a confrontation with another driver or can cause you to lose focus. As a matter of fact, you should never do anything to divert from your driving such as reading, speaking on the phone or text messaging. It seems obvious that all these activities will take your awareness away from keeping your eyes on the road and yet you see so many drivers doing these things.

If you wish to be safe while traveling, you need to make an attempt to change some of your bad driving habits.
